Winter Fundraiser 2019

Posted by admin - January 16th, 2019

January 2019,

Dear Friends of Saint Ann’s,

That’s right, it is 2019.  A new year has begun and God’s blessings are ready to be poured out upon us.  I trust your New Year’s
resolutions are intact and bringing to mind all we hope to do and become in the New Year.

Here at Saint Ann’s, we have begun our year with hope and optimism that God will, through the intercession of Saint Ann,
continue to guide and direct our mission to serve God’s People with dedication and love.  As we do each year, we begin
our fundraising efforts with a Valentine’s Day drawing.  Your continuing support of this effort helps us tremendously to
keep Saint Ann’s a special place of God’s peace, love and reconciliation.

I ask your help by participating in our drawing.  Please fill out and return the ticket stubs along with a recommended
$5.00 donation for each ticket.  I would be very happy to call you on Valentine’s Day with the good news that you won.
Our last winners were Bill G. of Scranton, Frank C. of Wilkes Barre, Tom R. of Clarks Summit, Marie F. of Jessup
and Joan W. of New Jersey.  They were unbelievers until I called them. Become a believer this Valentine’s Day.

Once again, I thank you so very much for your continuing support.  Through the intercession of Saint Ann,
may God bless you in every way throughout the New Year.

In Christ’s Passion,

V. Rev. Richard Burke, C.P.
Rector

Christmas 2018

Posted by admin - November 23rd, 2018

Advent 2018,

Dear Friends of Saint Ann’s,

Thanksgiving is fresh on our minds.  Each of us is thankful for so very many gifts from God from family and friends to our
companions like St. Ann.

As we move into Advent, our minds are set on the greatest gift of all, the gift of the Lord Jesus, born in all humility of a humble
but powerful mother.  Together they will make the gift of redemption possible and Joseph will surround them with love and
protection from the forces of darkness.  It is Christmas and we are called to prayerful remembering as we focus our energies
on living well today, tomorrow and the next day.

Here at St. Ann’s, our community is keenly aware of how much you and your devotion to St. Ann is a great gift to us.  As we
enter into our Christmas reflection and intensified time of prayer, we invite you to join with us in our gratitude and praise to God.
You are able to become one with us in prayer by filling out the enclosed intention slip and returning it to me with your Christmas
donation to St. Ann’s Monastery and Basilica.  Your intentions will be placed on our altar in our Passionist monastic chapel
where a novena of Masses will be celebrated for you and your intentions from Christmas Day through Wednesday,
January 2, 2019.  We will begin the New Year asking God to continue showering His Divine Providence upon us and our loved
ones throughout the coming year.

I am deeply grateful for all of your past generosity to Saint Ann’s.  Your support is deeply needed and helps us to keep
Saint Ann’s that special place of faith and devotion where countless devotees are able to discover strength, comfort, peace and
reconciliation.

Through the intercession of Saint Ann, may God bless you in every way and may your celebration of the birth of Jesus
bring you all the joy and peace that God can give.

In Christ’s Passion,

V. Rev. Richard Burke, C.P.
Rector

Fall Fundraiser 2018

Posted by admin - September 7th, 2018

September 2018,

Dear Friends of Saint Ann’s,

Firstly, I wish to express my deepest thanks to you for your generous response to our fundraiser for the revision of our
Basilica/Monastery heating system.  It was a very fine beginning to our quest to raise the funds necessary for our goal.  We
have not yet had the drawing but I will inform you once we do.

Secondly, I am writing to you as part of our ordinary fundraising program.  We have a drawing every Columbus Day.  We are at
that point once again.  These funds help St. Ann’s to meet our ordinary, day to day costs as we move forward.

I am so very grateful for your dedication in keeping St. Ann’s afloat financially.  Please always remember your donation for the
fundraising tickets reaches the lives of thousands of men, women and children who come to St. Ann’s for strength, comfort
and peace.  By your contribution, you are part of that ongoing picture.  I ask that you continue your generosity by returning
your ticket stubs along with your donation as soon as you are able.

My deepest thanks and through the intercession of St. Ann, may God bless you in every way.

In Christ’s Passion,

V. Rev. Richard Burke, C.P.

Basilica Heating System Fundraiser

Posted by admin - August 3rd, 2018

August 2018,

Dear Friends of Saint Ann’s,

Last year you responded so generously to a “special” fundraising drawing to help Saint Ann’s complete the new perimeter
fencing around the property.  A single drawing was sufficient to pay the bill because of your generosity.

I come to you once again asking your “special” generosity.  Our heating system in the Basilica and Shrine Center must be
completely replaced.  Long story short – the 93 year old iron heating pipes in the walls and under the floors are rapidly
disintegrating at a steady pace costing us $20,000. to $30,000. in repair bills each year.  The two boilers are well beyond
their life expectancy and need to be replaced.  The resulting leaks and collapsing pipes have brought about water and gas bills
far exceeding normal expectations.  The project to replace the system will free Saint Ann’s from rusting and collapsing pipes
forever and result in a 30-45% savings on heating costs.

I am asking your generosity to help us accomplish this essential project.  Enclosed are three tickets for our fundraising drawing.
I ask a $5. donation for each ticket. Any donation beyond that would be deeply appreciated.  Our drawing will take place on
Labor Day so please send your tickets and contribution by August’s end.

Once again, my deepest thanks for all of your past generosity.  I am deeply grateful for your continuing help in keeping
Saint Ann’s a special place of faith and devotion.  Through the intercession of Saint. Ann, may God bless you in every way.

In Christ’s Passion,

V. Rev. Richard Burke, C.P.
Rector

Solemn Novena 2018

Posted by admin - June 16th, 2018

June 2018,

Dear Friends of Saint Ann,

Suddenly, it is summer.  We waited patiently for sunshine and warmer weather and then it was here almost overnight.  Summer
at Saint Ann’s means it is time for the Annual Solemn Novena to Saint Ann.

Preparations are well underway.  Our Passionist preachers: Fr. Don Ware, C.P. and Fr. Michael Rowe, C.P., are prepared to lead
us in prayer and reflection over our ten days from July 17 to July 26 as we prepare to celebrate St. Ann’s Feast Day.  During this
time we bring all of our most pressing needs and intentions to Saint Ann, asking her intercession.  We are especially conscious
of the very many people in our lives that depend on our prayers for their well-being and their special needs.  I invite you to begin
your own novena preparations by remembering all these people and intentions for whom you will be praying this year.  Begin our
prayerfulness together by filling out your enclosed Saint Ann’s Novena intention slip and returning it along with your donation.

I am most grateful for all of your generosity.  I look forward to having you join us daily here at Saint Ann’s Basilica for one of
our Masses and novena devotions.  I’m also enclosing a leaflet of our Novena prayers to Saint Ann so that you can pray along
with us each day.

Saint Ann has watched over and cared for us all in so very many ways.  She never tires of hearing from us.
Through Her intercession, may God bless you in every way.

In Christ’s Passion,

Very Rev. Richard Burke, C.P.
Rector

Father’s Day Fundraiser

Posted by admin - May 18th, 2018

May 2018

Dear Friends of St. Ann’s,

Forsythia, daffodils, tulips and daisies have all made their way out of the earth into full bloom.  First Communions and Mother’s Day have been celebrated with love and devotion.  Our winners in our Mother’s Day drawing found the day especially inspiring.

As we head into summer, I invite you to participate in our Father’s Day drawing which helps us to end our fiscal year with small
rather than large bills to pay.  Enclosed please find three tickets.  I ask you to fill in the tickets and return them to me with a
suggested donation of $5.00 for each ticket.  Your participation is a great help to St. Ann‘s in meeting our bills.  If you would like additional tickets, please do not hesitate to let me know.  This may be a great way to honor your father, husband, son or friends
who are fathers.  I would very much like to interrupt your Father’s Day celebration with a phone call saying you are a winner
in our drawing.

Please be assured of my deepest gratitude and know that you are in our prayers for God’s continuing blessings upon you through
the intercession of Saint Ann.  May God bless you in every way.

In Christ’s Passion,

Very Rev. Richard Burke, C.P.
Rector

Mother’s Day Fundraiser

Posted by admin - April 11th, 2018

April 2018

Dear Friends of St. Ann’s,

This afternoon a beautiful pot of daffodils, a combination of large and miniature flowers, arrived at the Monastery front door.
The note read, Happy Spring and Happy Easter.  What a welcome sight.  We join the blooming flowers together with the
warming sun and the greening grass and we are on the road to Mother’s Day and summer.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank you all so very much for all of your generosity to Saint Ann’s over the years and especially
this past year.  My “special fundraiser” to help pay for the new perimeter fencing around St. Ann’s acreage was highly successful.
The fencing is all finished and has enhanced the beauty of Saint Ann’s tremendously.  Thank you.

As you know from your own budgets, expenses never end and costs seldom decrease.  I am requesting your continuing support
through your participation in our Mother’s Day Fundraiser.  On Valentine’s Day, I was able to call Erwin, Hank, Margo, Evilia
and Leo in Dunmore, Old Forge, Mountain Top and Lake Winola with the bright news they had won.  On Mother’s Day,
it could be you.  Remember, they would never have believed it either until they received my call and it was true!

I am enclosing 3 tickets.  Please fill them out and return them to me with the recommended donation of $5.00 for each ticket.
If you need additional tickets, please let me know.

Your generosity helps us keep St. Ann’s a special place of faith, prayer and devotion. Through the intercession of St. Ann,
may God continue to bless you in every way.

In Christ’s Passion,

Very Rev. Richard Burke, C.P.
Rector

Solemn Novena 2015

Posted by admin - June 5th, 2015

June 2015

Dear Friend of Saint Ann’s,

A very long winter has finally come to an end and we are beginning to warm up for the summer.  Here at Saint Ann’s, when things
begin to warm up, we think Solemn Novena to Saint Ann.  We are well into our preparations for the celebration of our 91st Solemn
Novena to Saint Ann.

Our preachers, Fr. Lee Havey, C.P. and Fr. Chris Cleary, C.P. – both vocation directors for our Passionist Community – are ready,
our confessors have been contacted and our employees are preparing our property and beautiful Basilica for all of you to come
and be with us in prayer.

We are firm believers in the power of intercessory prayer.  We look to Saint Ann to be our companion and our support as we turn
to God in our continuing needs, the needs of our families, the needs of our world and the needs of our church.  And so we spend
these special 9 days of preparation for the Feast of Saint Ann by listening to God’s word, by our participation in the sacramental
life of our faith and by placing our petitions in the hands of Saint Ann.

I invite you to begin preparation yourselves for our novena experience by sending us your intentions on the enclosed petition slip
along with your offering.  Your intentions will be placed before Saint Ann in the Basilica.  Our Passionist Community, together with
all of you, will be praying for those intentions each and every day.

I hope that you will be able to join us for all or part of the novena right here on our Basilica grounds.  I look forward to seeing you
and praying with you during our Novena from July 17th through July 26th, the Feast Day of Saint Ann.

Through the intercession of Saint Ann, may God bless you in every way.

In Christ’s Passion,

V. Rev. Richard Burke, C.P.
Rector

Lent 2015

Lent 2015

Dear Friend of St. Ann,

Our Lenten season has begun.  The imagery of dormant life shown us in our winter weather will give way to the bright promise
of new life when spring and Easter arrive.

The period of penitential practice and prayer is a sacred time for all of us and especially for our Passionist Community here at
St. Ann’s.  We preach Christ crucified as the most eloquent expression of God’s love for us.

I ask your sacrificial giving to St. Ann’s during this Lenten season as we prepare for Easter.  I invite you to send us your prayer intentions on the enclosed intention form along with your Easter donation.  These will be placed on the altar here at St. Ann’s
and will be remembered in a special way during an Easter Novena of Masses beginning Easter Sunday, April 5 and
concluding on Monday, April 13th.

I am most grateful for all of your past support and prayers and count on your continued dedication to St. Ann as we celebrate
her grandson’s Resurrection.

Through the intercession of St. Ann, may God bless you in every way.

In Christ’s Passion,

V. Rev. Richard Burke, C.P.
Rector

Winter Fundraiser

Posted by admin - December 29th, 2014

December 2014.

Dear Friends of St. Ann,

Amazingly, we have come to the end of another year.  I pray the Christmas has been a time of grace and blessing for you
and your loved ones. Our prayers for you gain new enthusiasm as we embark upon a new year.  May every blessing be
yours in 2015.

The new year also brings with it the increased fuel bills which will see Saint Ann’s through to the spring time.  You have
been a great and generous blessing to Saint Ann’s and we pray your generosity continues to be rewarded by God’s favor.
To help us meet the winter bills, I invite you to participate in our Valentine’s Day fuel fund-raising drawing.  St. Ann’s
receives much needed help and you have the opportunity to receive a wonderful prize.  Our last first place recipients were
a “young” couple in their nineties who needed the extra help in considering a move to a more comfortable living situation.
They are approaching their 70th wedding anniversary this year.  God provides some wonderful possibilities, doesn’t he?

I am so very grateful for all of your continuing support and especially for your continuing and faith filled devotion to Saint Ann.
Through Her intercession, may God continue to bless you and yours in every possible way.

In Christ’s Passion,

V. Rev. Richard Burke, C.P.
Rector

Christmas 2014

Posted by admin - November 24th, 2014

Dear Friend’s of St. Ann’s,

Christmas is such a unique and wonderful mystery which we are privileged to celebrate.  It is so difficult to believe that our God
loves us so intensely that He chooses to become one of us, a human being, in order to convince us of the depth of His Love.

God Became Human in the birth of our Savior!!!

It is this mystery which we celebrate each Christmas.  The feast day festivities focus on divine giving.  God chooses to give us
His Love, God chooses to give us salvation.  God chooses to give us His Son as our Savior.  God chooses to give us divine companionship in our journey of life.  God chooses to give us eternal life.  Christmas celebrates God’s choices to keep giving
His love, His favor, His graces, His blessings, His guidance and His companionship to all of us.

Traditionally, we are invited each Christmas to think as God thinks and to act as God acts, i.e. to be people who choose to give
out of love for God and one another.  Our Passionist community here at St. Ann’s chooses to give to you this Christmas what we
do best – our prayers.  We include you in our Christmas Novena of Masses as a symbol of our gratitude for your generosity
and goodness to St. Ann’s over the years.

We encourage you to fill out the enclosed intention slip with the names of all those you would have us include in our special Christmas Novena of Masses which begins on Christmas Day and concludes on Friday, January 2, 2015.  Please return the
intention slip with your Christmas donation to St. Ann’s by Christmas Day.

During these sacred days of Christmas, you and your intentions will be on our minds and in our hearts and prayers.  May God
who sent His son to be our Savior bless you abundantly this Christmas and throughout the coming year.

Through the intercession of St. Ann, may every Christmas grace and blessing be yours.

In Christ’s Passion,

V. Rev. Richard Burke, C.P.
Rector

Solemn Novena 2014

Posted by admin - June 16th, 2014

Dear Friends of St. Anns,

As our very strange and cold winter is moving away, we are getting ready with our plans for the

90th Anniversary of the Solemn Novena in Honor of St. Ann
from July 17th to the Feast Day of St. Ann, July 26th.

In honor of this anniversary, we are building a new outdoor shrine sanctuary for our
outdoor novena devotions. The new sanctuary will be first class, modest and cost efficient. St. Joachim was a hard
working Jewish dad who loved his wife, Ann and cherished his daughter, Mary. We will be honoring the complete
family of St. Ann.

Our preachers are Father Rick Frechette, CP from Haiti and Father Jack Conley, CP from our Western Province.
They are both excellent speakers. Fr. Rick has spent 28 years working with abandoned children in the slums
of Haiti. Fr. Jack has traveled extensively throughout the USA preaching the message of God’s love for all of us.
It should be an exciting and faith-filled 10 days.

Please write your intentions on the slip enclosed and return it to us in the enclosed envelope. They will be
prayed for the the Passionist community during the 10 days of the novena. In memory of St. Ann and
St. Joachim, we are honoring grandparents this year. We have a special prayer card that will be distributed
during the novena.

Each year, the Solemn Novena costs $100,000 to put on for the 10 days. We need your help in this endeavor.
We thank you for your past generosity and presence and ask for your kindness to us again this year.

May God, through the intercession of St. Ann, continue to bless you and your loved ones.

Gratefully
Very Rev. Joseph Jones, C.P.
Rector

Winter Fundraiser

January 2014

Dear Friends of St. Ann’s,

Allow me to introduce myself, I’m Father Joe the new Rector of St. Ann’s Basilica, Shrine & Community.  I hope this letter finds
you and your family full of peace and thanksgiving to God for giving us another Christmas season to remind us of his love for
us and for his presence and action in the world.

When I witness your struggles and challenges, either with health or finances or simply trying to deal with the unexpected events
of life, I also see your great faith.  The fact that you find God here at St. Ann’s shows that you want your faith to help you to see
clearly amidst the confusion and stress of life.

It is in knowing this that I write to you today with great urgency to ask you to participate in our Winter Fund Raiser which helps us
with our staggering utility bills for the winter.  I know well that many of you face the same challenges.  Along with the letters asking
us to pray for health and peace for your families, there are many letters that come to us each week asking for prayers so families
can pay their bills.

I am asking you to participate in the fund raiser by using the enclosed tickets with a suggested donation of $5.00 per ticket.
If you want any additional tickets for friends and family, please let us know.  We will have the drawing on February 14th, 2014.
You may not think that what you offer goes far, but let me assure you it makes a very big difference.  Your participation in this
is a great gift to us and allows us to operate this sacred place so we can continue to serve you.

On behalf of all the Passionists here at St. Ann’s, may God continue to show his care for you and your family every day as we
continue to celebrate this special Year of Faith.

God bless you.

Very Rev. Joseph R Jones, C.P.
Rector
